We are back- What an Adventure!!

Well we got back mid-afternoon today. We did have quite the adventure. On Sunday morning, we got kind of lost in Athens, Ga. We arrived in Maggie Valley around 3:00 p.m. After a short nap, we headed off to Cataloochee Cove to see the elk. We saw several bull and a few cows. We also saw one calf. We only saw one bull from the original Elk that were relocated to the Smokies.

On Monday, we had quite the adventure. We decided to take the scenic road around Balsam mountain. About 1/4 of the way down, Paul said "There is someone behind us." He pulled over and there was a park SUV with two rangers. They asked us how we got there and we said drove. They then asked "Was the gate not closed?" We of course said no. They then told us to stay where we were, that there was a man hunt down near Cherokee and the man was possibly armed. We eventually turned around and went the wrong way back to the beginning. A maintenance worker opened the gate for us and said the law enforcement rangers were finished with their investigation and we could go back down.

Later on that day, while we were in Cades Cove, Paul and I had a near encounter with a black bear. It came up out of the stream and was trying to cross the road. It was the biggest bear I ever saw.

I'll post more about our adventures later with some more pictures. I need to get ready to go to church.
