Family love

Over the last few days I have been preparing to work on my other blog. I have reviewed all of the historical family pictures I have and have scanned them on to a cd. I also read through several letters that were sent from family members. There were several that especially touched me. My Uncle Andy was shot in a hunting accident around 1952. He lost the use of his right arm completely. He corresponded with my mother who was at college over the six months or so that the doctors worked on his arm. Reading through the letters, he was in the hospital for several months. His letters were always upbeat to my mother and revealed the high spirited person he was.

Several other things touched me that my grandmother did. She kept my mother's high school diploma and several other school related things. She also kept the first nickel my mom earned by playing the piano at the age of six in 1939. (I found it sealed up in an envelope with the information written about it.) My grandmother or mom also kept a valentine's day card that my grandmother sent to her. In it the inscription read "Buy something for yourself! Will send you money order tomorrow as I forgot post office was closed today." My grandmother was always giving us money and asking us to buy something for ourselves. The last time she did this for me I was 22 years old and going to the New York Planetarium with my cousin. She called us over to her as we were headed out the door and thrust a 5$ bill in each of our hands saying "buy you something while your out!".

As I close out this post... I just realized that today was the day my mom was born. She would have been 75 years old if she had lived. Happy birthday mom- I miss you!!
