Work, Work Work
I haven't posted in a while because I have been working hard. This past Friday, my library system had a lock-in for teens. There were several lessons that I learned from the experience. I participated in a lock-in four years ago. The first thing I learned was that I am getting to old to stay up all night on purpose! I am still recovering from having stayed up all night and this is three days after said event. The second thing I learned (I kind of already knew this..), teens today are a lot different than teens four years ago. Teens today are very plugged in. They always have a cell phone, ipod or MP3 player glued to their ear. It was very hard to get them to leave there gadgets alone for several hours. The third thing I learned is that (yes, Eli Neiburger) it is all about the game and not the console. The teens were excited about having Wii at the lock-in but most were disappointed that we didn't have Mario Smash Brothers or other games instead of just having Wii sports.
The second big work thing is that tomorrow morning I leave for California. I am attending two conferences while in Anaheim. Urban Libraries Council is conducting a Foresight 2020 looking at the future of libraries. The second conference is the American Library Association's annual conference. I am looking forward to seeing all of those folks that I went through ELI last year with. I hope to post at least once while I am in California. Oh, well I need to go finish packing.
