I want to check you for ticks

Now that I have your attention, this is not an outdoor post. I have always enjoyed the lyrics of music. Brad Paisley is one of my favorite artists who writes picturesque lyrics. His songs always plant a video in my head. Often his songs lead my thoughts one way and then he throws in a word or two that makes you stop and go what?! His latest CD is 5th Gear. The a single from the CD is "I Want to Check You for Ticks". It is the story of a boy going in to a bar, seeing a beautiful girl and wanting to take her away from the bar (" you press that bottle to your lips, I wish I was your beer".) The chorus goes " I'd like to see you out in the moonlight. I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks, I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers and I'd like to check you for ticks."

On most of his songs the lyrics take a front seat to the music. The music actually complements or helps create a theme as you listen. For example, his song "Online". The video for Online won a CMT music video music award a couple of months ago. His use of a marching band compliments the picture he paints with his lyrics. The character talks about going to Hollywood only once with his highschool marching band.

One of my other favorite songs from 5th Gear is Mr. Policeman. The character in this song just wants to drive fast. As he talks about driving, he sees a policeman. He taunts the policeman with the lyric, "Hey, Hey Mr. Policeman I bet I can run faster than you can. With your big pot belly and your cowboy boots, a hundred bucks says you won't shoot. I know these woods like the back of my hand, catch me if you can." As the song goes on the guitar strums get more urgent and urgent. You can almost feel yourself wanting to press your foot to the floor to get away from Mr. Policeman. As I said Brad Paisley is one of my favorite artists and I dare you to check out his latest. His earlier works such as Mud on the Tires and Time Well Wasted are great too!
