Many people think that just because you hunt that you want to kill everything you see. I like to hunt but for me and most hunters it is the experience that counts. There is nothing like being out in the woods and experiencing the interaction of all of the critters. Where else can you experience the interaction of a coon walking with it’s baby. While you are watching it, you notice that it is beginning to glance backwards. When you look back you see a deer coming down the hill. I would never have noticed the deer if it had not been for that coon.
Hunting, at least for me, is the excuse to get out in the woods. I also like to know that I have the ability to provide meat for my family. Many people think that hunters hunt for the “big” rack. That hunt satisfies the need of every human to compete with others. Every one of us desires to out do others. If you say that you don’t you are lying. Just like all activities, hunting can be obsessed by some and can be disliked by others. My philosophy is to try everything once to be able to judge it on its own merits. If you have not been out in the woods being completely still and quiet don’t knock it. For me, it is a great time for reflection. We all need reflection to lessen the stress in our lives and think upon what we are doing. I invite you to try the outdoors. If not by picking up a gun try hunting with a camera. There is nothing like it!
